We collect information to provide and improve Splitwala. Here's what we gather:

Account Information

When you register, we collect your name, email address, mobile number, and password (stored as a secure hash). This is required to create and identify your account.

App Usage Data

Expense amounts, group names, member lists, and settlement records that you enter into the app. This is the core data that makes Splitwala work.

Device & Technical Data

Basic device information (OS version, app version) and crash logs to help us fix bugs. We do not collect precise location data.

2. How We Use Your Information

1 Run the service — authenticate you, store your groups and expenses, calculate balances.
2 Improve Splitwala — analyse usage patterns (in aggregate, not per user) to prioritise features and fix bugs.
3 Communicate with you — send transactional emails such as password resets, group invitations, and important service updates.
4 Safety & security — detect and prevent fraudulent activity, abuse, and unauthorised access.

3. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We only share data in the following limited circumstances:

Group members you invite

When you add someone to a group, they can see your name and the expenses in that group. They cannot see your other groups or account details.

Service providers

Trusted third parties that help us operate the platform (e.g., cloud hosting, email delivery). They process data only on our instructions and under strict confidentiality agreements.

Legal requirements

We may disclose information when required by law or to protect our rights and the safety of our users.
